Doctor Who Season Four Rumours

There are a number of odd rumours being circulated concerning Doctor Who. I'd like to take a look at those.

First, the Sun reported that RTD was plotting to leave after Season 4, and taking senior staff with him. They stated, though, "Boss Russell T. Davies has decided to axe the BBC1 sci-fi drama and concentrate on other projects". Correct me if I'm wrong, but axing the show is hardly RTD's decision to make. If he leaves, the BBC would be mad to let the series go - they'll just hired someone else to do what he's been doing. Indeed, given the history Doctor Who has, finding new people will just be a matter of getting out the address book.

And then, there was another report saying Freema Agyeman had been fired. This was defintely nonsense, as the fansite freemaagyeman.com got a statement from the BBC saying:

It is absolute rubbish that Freema Agyeman has been axed or sacked from Doctor Who. However we do not comment on future storylines.

So, the moral, then, would be: don't trust the tabloids. We'll see what happens down the line; I don't expect either Russell Davies or Freema Agyeman to be connected with the show for ever, but I strongly suspect we'll hear about their leaving from the BBC long before the Sun.

Is Billie Piper coming back to Doctor Who In Season Four!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Kelly at June 27, 2007 2:45 AM

no she is not

Posted by: nick at July 4, 2007 7:36 PM

How do you know weather she's coming back or not???

Posted by: Summer at July 10, 2007 4:39 PM

'cos she left, she wasn't "retired," so no she is not coming back. Freema is to play a more diminutive role in the fourth season, only appearing half-way through the series. Plus, Catherine Tate (pah) is to be the new assistant. Also, Tony Blair is to play Dalek Caan in an upcoming ep.
One of those /\ is a lie...

Posted by: daniel at July 18, 2007 10:31 PM

And today's story is that David Tennant is leaving to be replaced by James Nesbitt!

I'm waiting for official confirmation of any rumours.

Posted by: Katy Ingram at August 3, 2007 9:16 PM

James Nesbitt is not the doctor, it's just a rumour from the Sun newspaper, it's just a person making things up sitting at a desk.

Rumoured that an extra special story will be written for the 45th anniversary to be broadcast on the 23rd November 2008 starring Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant with special appearances by other guest actors.

3 telemovies starring David Tennant

2010 Series
13 episodes with a new Doctor! Mark Gatiss?

Posted by: deetz at September 25, 2007 2:22 AM

Do you have a source for those quotes?

I think bringing back Rose and Mickey would be a great mistake. Their story has ended and they were in effect killed off by RTD (sent to a parellel universe is a kinder way of getting rid of the characters) in order to move on to the next companion. Just like in the classic series the companions never return - except for Sarah Jane Smith. She was different, she was the classic companion and that was a good idea. Reprising Rose after just one year is plain bad script-writing.

Posted by: Goles at October 5, 2007 11:45 AM

I had high hopes that David tennant would stay for at least one more season after the next one. Or is that just me with my wishfull thinking. How hard will it be to replace him though, he is just so GOOD!

Posted by: LuC at October 6, 2007 6:45 AM

Helloooooo, seriously!! Deetz how do you know all that stuff?? About the episodes? Is it for real or is it just your ideas? Coz it sounds great but I haven;t actually seen it anywhere else so how d'you know its for real??

billie isnt coming back donna is

Posted by: hassan at October 12, 2007 5:39 PM

rose better be coming back

Posted by: darren at October 16, 2007 11:16 AM

I agree with whoever said reprising Rose would be bad script-writing. Reprising characters never works out as well as the fans seem to think it will at the outset. Besides, change is good if it's done right. Change keeps a show fresh, and Doctor Who is one of those shows that seems to be conducive to change. Anyway, Billie Piper isn't planning to return, from all I've read, so if they did reprise Rose, they'd have to find a new actress to be her, and that'd just be...wrong :P

I loooove David Tennant! He's a phenominal actor and fits this role perfectly. I hope he sticks around!

rose was rubbish!! she was nothing compared to old companions. with martha and donna, dw is starting to feel like the old series again! moral of this story: the doctor should never fall in love with one of his companions

Posted by: m at November 3, 2007 2:12 PM

i agree rose waz rubbish!! But that is my opinion. my fav companion would have 2 b donna. even though she waz only in 1 ep i think catherine tate is brill. i also agree that the doctor should never have fallen in love with 1 of his companions

Posted by: at November 6, 2007 6:41 PM

i loved rose i thought she was great. she changed the doctor. i think rose being in the story and him falling in love with her just shows how the doctor has changed and how he does have feelings even if hes not human i think they need to bring her back .david and billie are a great team and i think since she left hes just not the same there is something missing. She helped him through so much i believe rose made him a better doctor, she had faith in him.Martha liked him but i think she felt that way just because of rose she was jealous. But if there was no rose i bet u she wouldnt like him.And donna? shes ok ...a little annoying and very bitchy ....the doctor dosent need someone like that in his life he needs rose !!!!

I had read in a paper today Rose is coming back for the last 3 episodes and sounds crazy but he will be having all 3 of the girls Marta Donna and Rose. Another thing is that James Masters from buffy the Vampire will be playing the 11th Doctor who after David Tennant but the rumour of the 4 doctors isnt true however they will be having something a bit like it where 10th Meets 9th. one more rumour the 4 Doctors is going to be called 11,10,9 After the last 3 doctors. The rumour on Rose is true 110%.

Just stumbled onto your chat...It's amazing that one has episode titles, authors and descriptions for season 4 and the 3 telemovies, even though previously Russell Davies has been very good about keeping things secret. They kept Catherine Tate a secret from even other cast until basically the filming. So, to reveal that past doctors, davros, the death, XYZ are all coming back, plus what each episode is about seems very strange. Maybe a few rumors. Like Rose and Davros, that would be normal foreshadowing. But, to do what we all want (or a lot of us) and see the old doctors again (I want Colin, too!) and blab it now seems rather anti-climactic, particularly when that's a far greater secret then Catherine Tate playing the companion. I don't trust this list. But, it's nice to dream.

Posted by: Aaron at November 29, 2007 9:20 AM

P.S. As for Captain Jack returning, which I don't see mentioned in this forum ... yeah, that's an ongoing expectation given how his role is written in the Series. And, Sarah Jane & K-9 too, though that would make Sarah's first return anti-climactic. But, given the fact they have their own series.....

Rose, Martha and Donna are all coming back. If you want evidence go on the official doctor who website and look at the news section

Posted by: alice at December 4, 2007 8:41 PM

OK. Much as I hate to step into rumour mills, this is what I have to say.

The information that Davros, Rose & Mickey will return for Time War Part 1 2 3 & 4 (I can only confirm that the information for Planet of the Ood is correct, which suggests that the information for Time War: 1,2,3 & 4 might also be) is just rumour mongering. Mostly by The Sun. BUT! Let us not forget that the Sun did correctly leak the information that A) The Daleks would return. B)
The Cybermen Would Return. C) The Master (played by John Simm) would return.

So far the sun have been accurate in their predictions. So let us not be quick to conclude that they would be mistaken a fourth time.

I would like to see the source material for the episode listings. And I will repeat that "Planet of the Ood" is confirmed for Series 4.

Hugh Grant will not Appear in "Voyage of the Damned"

The current cast list for "Voyage of the Damned" Is as follows.

The Doctor: David Tennant
Astrid Peth: Kylie Minogue
The Captain: Geoffrey Palmer
The Singer: Yamit Mamo

On a final note, I would say that the return for Billie Piper to season for Episode 10, 11, 12 & 13 ( though likely just 12 & 13), is "Possible".

Posted by: James Random at December 8, 2007 3:20 AM

The rumour that Season 5 of Doctor Who has been postponed until 2010 is confirmed. This comes about as Russel T. Davis and David Tennant are planning on leaving the show. (Tennant's Contract Only extended to Season 4). In 2009, the "break" will be broken by Three 75 minute specials starring David Tennant.
The break comes about as a means of allowing the BBC to recruit a new writer and actor to replace Russel T. & David Tennant.
It is as yet unclear as to what the BBC has planned for Freema Agyeman, but it is known that Catherine Tate's contract extends only for Season 4.

Posted by: James Random at December 8, 2007 3:26 AM

A further update: Season 4 is confirmed as seeing the return of the Sontarans in an as yet unnamed episode Written by Helen Raynor & Directed by Douglas McKinnon

Agatha Christie is also confirmed as a character in Season 4

Fact - Rose is returning. Fact - David Tennant is staying. My hope - Rose is returning for good. GOD I'm excited! Now I need to find out when the next season starts... Fantastic that it's a British show, over here, with the WGA strike, some of my favorite shows (BSG, Psych, Burn Notice) might not be coming back/finishing for a while. Mind you, I definitely support the strike, but... I'm allowed to be a BIT selfish.

I know exactly what I want. Just keep Rose around every so often until Doctor #12.

Then, when he's about to die, having defeated some great evil that threatens the universe, like, oh, I don't know, Omega...

He staggers back into the Tardis, he goes to see Rose to say goodbye...

And the Tardis power supply kicks in...

"You're the Doctor, Rose..."

"...Run...Run for your life..."

Just want to say I love Doctor Who, and I'm excited that Rose is coming back, but im definitely glad that she is coming back for the mini-series too and not for a season. The ending between them was perfect, and it wouldn't be Doctor Who style to have them be together forever and be happy lol. But I'm also glad about the supposed movie that is going to happen. From what I've read this is the last time we will see David Tennant as the doctor, but I'm not sure. Anyways, i like this thread cause you can get real information, so keep it up!

#1: I am really happy that Rose is coming back however, I don't think it would be wise to have her 'back for good' because it just doesn't fit the style of the show. I think fans of Rose and the doctor just need a slightly less heart breaking separation of the two of them, and then we can move on to new companions. I'm really glad with the way they're doing it with her coming in at the end of the season, it makes it so that it isn't too happily ever after.

#2: maybe I'm not up on the news but everything I have read/seen states that David tennant has no intention of leaving after the mini series. In fact I saw an interview done not long ago where he says that he's in for the fourth season and the mini series and has no intention of leaving after that. Personally, I sincerely hope that this ends up being true because I think David Tennant is a wonderful actor and an excellent doctor. I would be sad to see him go.

My only prediction is one that seems to have been a consistent theme in every season: Russel T davies will screw things up for doctor who even more than previously thought possible.

Perhaps we will have, davros played by gareth gates, who pits the daleks in a war against the cybermen and the master, With Billy piper, freema, sarah jane, tate to save the doctor when he gets turned into a telly tubby by a virus created in davros' lab? All in the same episode. Maybe Davros could turn out to be "bad wolf" afterall, and he was just hiding in the tardis all this time as a form of energy?

Perhaps RTD could get the cybermen to fart just like the slitheen? Or redesign the tardis with a multicoloured 1970's style hippy design? Tennant could regenerate doing a handstand?

Im sure whatever Russel T Davies writes, everyone will think its wonderful either way. Never mind the many dedicated fans of the classic series who feel let down by the utter joke he has turned doctor who into.

Rumour of the day:
ECCLESTONE featuring in 5th season!!!
Anyone has further informations?

Posted by: dw lover at February 11, 2008 4:00 AM

Rumours I've heard:

Rose returns for three episodes - Rose is coming back that'd been confirmed leik woah! We even got a bit of her in the cimema trailer (yay!)

They'll be a Doctor Lite episode with Donna, Martha and Rose all trying to save a badly hurt Doctor (I'm thinking this is the first episode Rose shows up in)

Sarah Jane and Jack are Rumour to return for the finale

Martha will be in five episodes in series four

Donna will be in all

I read that David Tennant will return in 2010 for series five but then elsewhere that it isn't confirmed yet. So I'm hoping that he does cause... well he's brilliant

Russell T Davies has said he'll be leaving the show at some point, not meaning the show will end with him, just that he won't be a part of it anymore.

uh... I think that's it :P

billie piper is fit

Posted by: at March 9, 2008 11:07 AM

Billie Piper is RUBBISH.

There is so much excellent talent out there why would they want to bring back Chris Evans' Reject.

If that's the best they can come up with it's time to change the writers.

None of the 'old' Doctors would have given Rose so much as a second glance.

WHY does everything have to have relationship issues these days??? What happened to good old Sci Fi?

Posted by: Knackeredmum at March 18, 2008 2:36 PM

Rose was the best companion of the new series. The only one who comes close is Sarah Jane. The people who don't care for Rose to come back are the same people who don't believe that love has any place in science fiction. I for one believe that they are soul mates and even if she leaves again, and the doctor has other companions, she will be the one who taught him the most about humanity and the fact that he doesn't have to be alone if he opens himself up to others.

okay, yeah, Rose IS coming back. If any of you guys had bothered to read the stories at the official doctor who website (http://bbc.co.uk/doctorwho) You'd know that.
Also, take a look at the real story line here; the doctor falls in love (to an extent) with ALL his companions. Idiots.

You British people suck eggs! Who cares about Doctor What. It is all rubbish just like Anthony Ainley's beard. Bring back Danger UXB if you want a real show with real heroes!!

Yeah right, and you Americans are real talented. You yanks have not the intelligence to even decide whats good and what bad, I have seen American shows, and you idiots laugh at anything.

I love doctor who and can't wait until series 4 hits in the us. I also love the torchwood series and the sarah jane adventures. I like how they fit the shows together and keep them connected. I wouldn't be surprised if Capt Jack has something to do with Rose coming back. But they would not keep her the same. I heard one person suggest villian. She will be changed in some way not necessarily as a villian, but they kept her in the scripts for a reason, they wanted to bring her back, she was never finished to the dr. He has unfinished business with her, they need to end it some way or keep her as ongoing somehow. We have seen capt jack in DW and TW, sarah jane in DW and now her own show. Why not Rose maybe she will have a visit to Torchwood as well. I will be waiting to see. Whatever happens will be "fantastic"

The CBBC Newsround website also alluded to a return, indicating that series 4's villain, "had the bottom half of a Dalek, while its top half looked like it could be human."

what you want to know is all on newsround.

Yes, Billie is coming back, she even appeared in the first Doctor Who episode of season 4.

Posted by: Sammy at June 1, 2008 4:49 PM

Davros is appearing in the final couple of episodes. How can he not be after CBBC's newsround said that one of the series 4 villians "had the bottom half of a Dalek, while its top half looked like it could be human." Also, the makers of the Dr Who action figures have announced they will be making a Davros figure available.

Posted by: Michael at June 7, 2008 3:17 PM

why couldn't they used a younger & hotter chick in the 4th series. plus the one they have in the fourth series is annoying.
