Darkfall Day 18
David X. Messer did not in fact get ganked horrbly or rage-quit. Read on for more.
First off apologies for the lack of updates last week. You would be forgiven for thinking that I got ganked horribly last weekend and gave up the game in frustration. The truth is a little more mundane, I had a houseguest for the week which made spending a couple of hours a day playing a bit difficult. So rather than have seven days of "didn't play darkfall" or "logged in, said hello in Clan chat, logged out again", I thought I'd push my entries back a week.
Today was spent watching the Darkfall launcher tell me the servers were down and that my client had failed to patch. That's right, it's the big expansion patch day! I spent a bit of time reading the "while we wait for the servers to come back up" thread which started me thinking. There's been quite a lot of talk from AV about the big features of theexpansion, but I started thinking about all those little things DF does that would be a quick and easy fix.
* quite often when I'm out and about doing anything that involves stamina I'll see a message along the lines of : "You need a minimum of 0.4 Stamina, you have 0.22227725". Even assuming somewhere in an alternate dimension I've now become an Uber-Darkfall-PVP god and care about hearing how much stamina I'm short (rather than just "You've run out of stamina") do I really need that figure to 8 decimal points?
* I'd quite like the screenshot button to work, or if it's not going to be fixed this patch at the very least take out the keybinding from the options menu which is pretty misleading if you don't know that it doesn't work. One of the first things I wanted to do when I started playing DF was to show people what the game looked like. It's free marketing and I can't quite get why it hasn't been before now.
* A hotkey to bring up a list of clan members who are online. So far the only way I know to do this is to go through the dreadful Clans interface, find my clan, click 'clan roster' which just feels like far too much clicking for something I'm going to look at for a fraction of a second.
I can see why the things I've listed haven't been fixed. They're not show stoppers and don't stop people playing the game. And, granted, for a expansion we like to see big new features but everyone appreciates the small things as well. Next entry the game should be up, patch notes should be out, and I'll witter on some more!
