EVE Online Competition: Rags to Riches

Win A 30-day Game Time Code for EVE Online!

Welcome to the first EVE Online Rags-to-Riches Competition. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to take a 14-day trial account from the starting conditions to as much money as you can raise. You can get that by missioning, trading, pirating, scamming, or whatever you like. Read on for further details, and to find out how to enter.

There are two main rules.

1) You must not transfer money from another EVE character of your own, nor may you accept gifts from friends. Nor, indeed, may you buy ISK for real currency or GTCs. To make sure of this, you will be required to provide a record of wallet transactions from EVE's My Character section on the website. These are to be downloaded and emailed to me.

2) You must write up, in good detail, what you're doing to get your pile of ISK. If you have a blog, you can publish it there, and if not, I'll be happy to post your writings here. You should provide at least two chunks of writing, one after 7 days, and one after 13, and more of them will be looked kindly upon.

There will be two prizes: one for the highest wallet balance at the end of the 14 days, and one for the most entertaining account. It's possible that both prizes will be won by one entrant. Each prize will be 1 30-day Game Time Code for EVE Online, purchased by me from Shattered Crystal.

My decision will be final as regards the winners. I may possibly call on some of the other EVE bloggers, such as CrazyKinux or The Ancient Gaming Noob, if I'm in doubt about something in the wallet records, but in the end, someone has to make the call, and that someone will be me.

So, if you want to compete, leave a comment on this post, telling me what you intend to do to get the largest amount of money together in 14 days. If there are more than 10 entrants, then I'll choose the 10 that I like best - while I'm willing to do a lot of reading, 10 entrants will provide me with enough to be getting on with. My biases, so that you can cater to them, involve good spelling and grammar and entertaining prose.

Applications are open from the time you see this post until the 30th of November. On the 1st of December, I'll post with the names (or pseudonyms, if you prefer) of the 10 accepted entrants. If you give me an email address with your entry comment here, I'll also drop you a line to let you know if you're in or not. On the 2nd, those accepted may open their 14-day trial account and get going.

(I'll post a link to the 14-day trial account form when I post the accepted entrants, just in case you're not familiar with the EVE site.)

Looking forward to winning that GTC!

My original character was Amarr, so I'm considering creating one. Maybe Khanid, we'll see.

As for how I plan to make my money, it'll be by going after as many NPC pirates as I can muster.

Looking to the competition.

Isn't this a bit skewed towards people who can play 18 hours a day? I might still enter tough (will post details later).

Hi Mhaelt;

I figure anyone who can play 18 hours a day will spend that time on their main, not a trial account. However, there's the most-entertaining-account prize as well, which doesn't require huge amounts of time in-game.

You might want to consider using the Eve API (http://myeve.eve-online.com/api/default.asp) and go with the full API access to validate the wallet info for the 2 weeks. Since they're trial accounts there's nothing to be lost by sharing the info and they can always be reset to revoke access afterwards. Less chance of nasty people cheating that way...

As Drew, says, the post will be crucial in determining the winner.

Mine will be "in character" to spice things up.

I'd like to compete please!

I'm going to start out mining, taking some escort missions until I get enough money for a salvage ray and a ship strong enough to go after pirates.

I enjoyed my last character, and had her pumped up on the social skills which I found very helpful.

I'd like to participate. I am actually only just out of a trial account, so I volunteer to be the official underdog of the contest.

I'll (like everyone else) start out mining but I plan to make a more of a trade centered character, so that should be interesting.

Addendum to previous note: there may be some piracy involved in there, somewhere.

Watch out, new eden. :)

Great idea for a fun contest, good going. I'd love to compete, but I'm probably going to be out of town for most of the contest so it really doesn't work for me.

Best of luck to everyone.

I'keelyu Dedd: Um. Para 5, above:

Each prize will be 1 30-day Game Time Code for EVE Online

Or is that not what you meant?
