Shaking the WoW Addiction

While I have the remnants of a three-month subscription winding down, I haven't logged in to WoW in over a month. Most of my MMO time is going into EVE Online, and a bit into LotRO, neither of which seem to make the same demands on my time.

There seem to be a lot of people leaving WoW around now, and many of them are looking back and asking, "Was I crazy?". There's a particularly fine example on Hardcore Casual.

I know that of our - already small - guild on Argent Dawn, at least five people have jumped to LotRO, and I know another four from an allied guild have done the same. In fact, nearly everyone that I regularly grouped with in WoW is now playing LotRO. The complaint is always the same - a lot of pressure to reach the end-game, and then the end-game isn't up to much.

I'm starting to wonder if Blizzard aren't going to have to start making some changes if they want to hang on to customers...

People are finally recovering from WoW sickness. Great. I lost many good men to that insanity... maybe now some of my friends will be willing to do something on the weekend instead of sit alone at home playing that infernal game. :-D
