WAR Delayed until 2008
The highly anticipated Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR) has had its release pushed back to 2008, according to Eurogamer.
while most of the work on the game's Dwarf and Greenskin zones is already complete, the team has decided to go back over that work and make some changes, implementing new ideas and lessons learned in the last nine months.
There's some speculation knocking about, though, that the delay and reworking is partly due to the very polished state of Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) at launch - and the very poor state of Vanguard at the same stage. It's becoming more and more clear that an MMO that launches badly is not going to survive - of all the games currently being played, Anarchy Online is the only one that has survived a bad start, and the market didn't have nearly as much choice then.
The one thing almost any game is going to have to do is pull people away from World of Warcraft, and that's going to be hard. LOTRO and WAR both have the advantage, of course, of established fanbases that aren't necessarily already involved in MMOs.
