Doctor Who: The Shakespeare Code (Preview)
So, third season, second episode. Spoilers, naturally, follow.
In this episode, the Doctor and Martha meet William Shakespeare, and save him from the influence of three witches called Carrionites. Since they have a name, we can pretty much assume they're aliens of some variety.
Shakespeare is being played by Dean Lennox Kelly. It's not the first time Shakespeare has been mentioned in Doctor Who; the old series had several references, and Gareth Roberts has said that this episode neither confirms nor denies those references.
Martha apparently mentions Harry Potter at some point. That's no major point for me, but I can imagine that some of the Potter fans are going to be very pleased. Now if she'd mention Battlestar Galactica...
Interestingly, the producer - Phil Collinson - told SFX magazine that this episode was the most expensive ever to produce. Since it was mostly filmed in Coventry, Warwick, and the Globe Theatre, the cost pretty much has to be in the special effects. So we'll see what comes of that...
There's still no hint available of how or why Martha ends up staying longer than "just one trip", though, and I'm wondering how they're going to resolve that.
