Doctor Who: Christmas Special

Speculation and possible spoilers for the Doctor Who Christmas Special!

With Catherine Tait starring as Donna-the-Bride alongside David Tennant, as seen at the end of Doomsday, and much speculation as to whether the new companion, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), appears in this special episode (showing on December 25th) or at the beginning of Season 3, it's time to round up some of the news and rumours.

The Doctor Who Website is currently decked out with an "advent calendar", although the hexes there now make me think of Torchwood rather than Who. As of today, there are some fake banknotes, some music, and confirmation of the return of the Robot Santas.

The Mirror dived straight in with some speculation on what's going to feature:

...the return of classic companion Sarah Jane Smith and her robot dog K9. The theme of the show will be "past, present and future".

"We're aiming for the ultimate Christmas story," [...] "A combination of A Christmas Carol and It's A Wonderful Life, set in London's West End - with scores of evil aliens."

There's also some confirmed footage of Donna in a taxi driven by a Robot Santa, which is pursued by the Doctor flying the Tardis down a motorway. The notion of the Tardis actually flying always puzzles me; it's one of the least aerodynamic objects I can imagine. Travel in time and space, sure, travel in the air - not so convinced. This was from a clip shown at a Children in Need event.

Rumours that Billie Piper will appear have been denied by Russell Davies. And Martha Jones won't be appearing until Season 3 begins - that's from the BBC, back in July.

And finally, according to the Sun, explosions, soldiers and military vehicles feature, since they were seen in filming in Cardiff.

EDIT: All Along The Watchtower has a video clip of the 4-minute extract from the Children In Need event.
