D&D Red Box, 1983
During my lunch break today, wandering around Dun Laoghaire and poking into the various charity and second-hand bookshops, I came across something rather unexpected: a copy of the 1983 D&D Basic game, the Red Box. I seized it. I (gently) rattled it. Dice! I handed over the two euro, and carried it off to examine.
It's actually very nearly complete. Both rulebooks are in there, along with a character sheet, filled out with the details of a first-level fighter by the name of "Phildiana Jones" (player's name is Philip, apprently), four, six, eight, ten and twelve-sided dice (no twenty, alas), a very badly beaten pencil and an eraser. There's the bonus of a hand-drawn map of a small dungeon.
I'm often pleased with second-hand books I acquire, but this is the best find in years.
