Peak Magic
People are giving some attention to the concept of peak oil now, as the idea catches up that oil is not an infinite resource (although there still seem to be people who think it is). What if magic were also not an infinite resource, and peaked sometime around 500CE? Would learnéd folk have seen it coming, talked about peak magic, and started working on how to run a world without magic?

what if magic was something that would come back after a while due to it building up again... and if it took thousands of years to rebuild. Would be be due for a resurgance (almost literally)
