Miniatures

There'd be money for someone in a miniature painting and finding service. At least, I'd pay them. I'd even pay to rent the things. Y'see, I love miniatures. They're tiny, detailed representations of things that don't otherwise exist, and you can move them around and do much more complex tactical stuff in a game with them than you can without. I don't play with miniatures, though. That's because I can't find the ones I want, and when I do, my painting skills are fully capable of making a very fine miniature look like an accident in a glue factory.

I would pay for a service whereby I can say "I need three skeletons, one with a huge axe, and one carrying a wooden box, four tanned guys in black robes with wide-brimmed hats, an ogre-sized fire elemental, and a blond woman in full plate, but with no helm", and get them a week later. I might not want to keep them; I might only want them for one game, or I might want them for a couple of months.

I'd also really like to be able to get miniatures that represent some of the signature characters. "I want a slightly over-scale guy in black full plate, and his helm has to be flat-topped. And a bald woman with as many weapons as she can carry. And a pit fiend who's at human scale, not the twelve-foot-tall kind. And a hugley overweight man in Indian style clothes."

At present, I don't think such a service exists, and I suspect that setting it up would be too expensive for anyone to try. It's a pity, because as I say, I'd pay.

James asked:

I haven't many at all - I had a few at one stage, which more or less represented the characters in a campaign I was running at the time. They went missing over time, and now all I have are a set of unpainted Planescape minis, which I can't bring myself to part with, and a few odd plastics knocking around.
