No Iron Council Yet

I haven't yet got my hands on a copy of Iron Council, the newest book by China Miéville, and the third set in New Crobuzon. What I have been doing, though, is reading every review of it I can find, because if you can't get the goods, reading about someone who has is... well, actually, it's nothing like as good, but it's better than nothing.

So here's what I've found so far:

Village Voice - John Giuffo
Bookslut - Adam Lipkin
Booklist (via Amazon) - Ray Olson
The Best Reviews - Harriet Klausner
scifi.com - Paul di Filippo

And a line in that last one reminds me that I really am going to have to find some of M. John Harrison's books.

In general, apart from the Bookslut review, where Adam is not very impressed at all, they're very very positive. I'm glad this book returns to New Crobuzon, because as far as I'm concerned, it was far and away the best character in Perdido Street Station, and I was disappointed that it didn't feature much in The Scar.

I think that Adam just doesn't like Mieville. He can be quite set in his dislikes, like the whole Tolkien thing. It doesn't necessarely make him *wrong*, but it does mean that some of his reviews are going to be problematic.

I must point him at King Rat and see if that works better for him.
