Torchwood underlines the brilliance of Russell T Davies. What a writer. Not just bringing the Doctor back for a whole new generation, but the fact he has made Captain Jack a Ruthless hero for the present and the future, which by combining the two make it the best and catching programme on British Television. The final series is one of the only programmes or film which has left me cheering for a finally whilst my missus is telling me to shut the f**k up. if you havnt seen the series or the finally, then wot u waiting for, its the best screened program ever. i would like to know whether captain jack is on the second series because he went with the doctor in the finale, if anyone knows please keep me posted thnx!

omg my fuckin god docter who is in the next series i couldnt stop sreaming aww

Posted by chelsea at January 2, 2007 3:23 AM

how do we know he went with the doctor?

JACK COULD HAVE HIS OWN TARDIS!

that's what the doctor's hand could be for, to get his dna and use it to grow his own tardis.

Posted by beccie at January 2, 2007 11:45 AM

what confuses me is if captain jack has gone with the doctor how come torchwood is still continuing, is jack coming back?

Posted by chloe channing at January 2, 2007 12:24 PM

yeah bring on doctor who! as for torchwood a great series ruined by RTD's obssesion for the world to be gay! But great series ending! The slightest sign of the doctor raises it coolness by miles! N its about time that hand had been explained!

Posted by Sam at January 2, 2007 12:54 PM

ye cpatain jacks in series 2 he's not in doctor who until episode 11, not staying with the doctor for long.

understand who's that hand was not the doctors from the christmas invasion

Posted by fos at January 2, 2007 1:09 PM

I'm glad they are making another season. I want to know how in hell Jack disappeared like that, I know it was to do with the TARDIS and the hand, whatever the hell that does.
And I damn hope Jack and Ianto can find girlfriends because 'Captain Jack Harkness' and 'The End of Days' were sick!

Posted by bracketsman at January 2, 2007 2:14 PM

I thought the last two episodes were the best of the series. I think the pansexuality worked well! I hope Jack and Ianto are very happy together.

Posted by ralph at January 2, 2007 4:37 PM

it was magnificent!!!!!!

Posted by Matt at January 2, 2007 7:19 PM

Lovely ending, not sure about the giant monster thing, but the romance seemed fitting somehow. We've always know that Jack was bisexual and I didn't see Capatin Jack Harness episode as gay but just a lovely sad romance.

End of Days was rather interesting with the betrayal and the Sleeping Beauty moment with Gwen.

Its great that the characters are very human and real, with the slagging match between Owen and Jack about the bad things they each do was very real.

ROll on season 2, you took some getting used to but now its great and my Sunday evening wont be the same.

Posted by Bev at January 2, 2007 7:45 PM

Haha, I only just realised that hand was the doctors, after watching the last episode.. damn I feel stupid

Says the press release: "BBC Three's Torchwood is back for a second series but this time it will premiere exclusively on BBC Two as confirmed by Jane Tranter, Controller of BBC Fiction, and BBC Two Controller Roly Keating. Starring John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Burn Gorman, Naoko Mori and Gareth David-Lloyd, Torchwood has captivated audiences and smashed records. It attracted an audience of 2.4 million viewers for the broadcast of its first two episodes - securing the highest-ever audiences for a BBC Three programme and the highest-ever ratings for a non-sport programme to air across all channels in digital history.Created by award-winning writer Russell T Davies, with Chris Chibnall as co-producer and lead writer, the high-octane sci-fi thriller follows a team of modern day investigators as they use alien technology to solve crime, both alien and human. Set in Cardiff, Torchwood delves into the unknown - battling against the impossible in the highly volatile underworld of savage aliens and monsters whilst trying to maintain their every day lives. Roly Keating said: "Inventive, intelligent and unpredictable, Torchwood is a brilliant piece of 21st century fantasy drama. I'm delighted that its second series will be premiering on the channel." Julian Bellamy, Controller of BBC Three, said: "Breaking all records on BBC Three is no mean feat and we've been proud to help build Torchwood into one of the most talked-about and eagerly-anticipated series of recent years." Jane Tranter said: "Torchwood is a modern and innovative drama that has truly captured the imagination of its audience, and we are very excited that there will be more of the adrenaline-fuelled, action-packed adventures of our team of Torchwood heroes." Russell T Davies said: "The whole team is bristling with ideas and we are delighted that Cardiff is going to be home to more monsters and mayhem." Torchwood will be executive produced by Julie Gardner and Russell T Davies. Filming is due to start in Cardiff in Spring 2007 and the series will hit screens later next year.

the hand gives off a kind of signal out into space after all it's alien and part of the doctor.

thinking back to series 1's episode 6, the 'dalek' sent out a signal into space which the tardis picked up and went after it, this is on the same principle as it the hand sents a signal looking for it's "own" aka the doctor (in his tardis)

Posted by inside info at January 2, 2007 10:19 PM

Great way to end the first series, but I so wish people would just get over themselves and realise that gay people are part of the rich fabric of life.

Posted by Karl at January 2, 2007 11:43 PM

I thought that the last two episodes were the best of the series. That old guy was very creepy and worked well in the part. As for the gay sexuality in the show. Who cares? I'm not against anything like that. It makes a change from it being heterosexual (please note, im not gay) and something like that, I don't mind. Good on the show writers to write this into the scripts... the big mystery now is whether Jack has gone with the Doctor or has built his own tardis. I can't wait to find out.... oh, and Eve Myles is gorgeous!

Posted by Lee Taylor at January 3, 2007 12:28 AM

Does any one know how long we have to wait until season 2 starts there were too many questions unanswered. What happens to torchwood do they keep going with out Jack, Will jack be back, whats going to happen with the rift now its all fluctuating. and how is the doctor going to come in to play. and finally what else has been brought back with the rift opening, is suzie back, does lisa come back?

Just a sub note it would be so cool if jack has a TARDIS, but i doubt it, the doc always says how his TARDIS is the last one.

Posted by Daniel Moore at January 3, 2007 12:38 AM

If you are going to watch a show were the main character is pansexual or bisexual, don't complain when he makes out with other guys.

Posted by Captain'sCutie at January 3, 2007 2:36 AM

Just after watching the last episode , i had to post this .
I think they are now going to include "Doctor Who" in series 2 , because of the following reasons ;

* i Quote
Gwen : who would you have been tempted by?
jack : the right DOCTOR

*After jack started smiling about the hand fizzing ,
you started to hear the Doctor Who , wurring sound.

So I think that Doctor Who , is more relaated to torchwood than we think .
Well Torchwood is a Doctor Who spin off anyway

Posted by James at January 3, 2007 3:15 AM

i read a interview with russel davis and he said that capt jack was a rogue time lord so he could have his own tardis...

Posted by fan#1 at January 3, 2007 3:26 PM

i just like to point out that torchwood is a anagram of The Doctor

Posted by fan#1 at January 3, 2007 3:30 PM

Hi All, Dr who and torchwood fans the doctor aint coming in torchwood because torchwood is rude 4 young kids but dr who aint and if doc goes 2 torchW. then kids will get bad i eman bad habbits and also the torchW. team can go to doctor who Do'h From Captain The Doctor ps dr who is sick

Posted by billy at January 3, 2007 5:34 PM

don't forget that on 'fathers day' on doctor who the tardis key glew gold and so did the hand when the tardis came. It's signaling an approach from the doctor or tardis, something timelordy

Has anyone else picked up on the similarities between new testament/lion witch and wardrobe?
Was so sad at the end - lol laughed so much when i saw bev's comment about sleeping beauty - that's EXACTLY what i said as i watched the end!
ccan't wait for the next series - does anyone know when it's out?

russel t davies, anounced that it would be good is somehow torchwood crossed over with doctor who(in one of the torchwood confidentials), whether or not this is to happen is unknown at the moment but is likely to be done whilst russel reigns**))

Posted by inside info at January 4, 2007 9:00 PM

Jack isn't a time lord. In the blitz episode of Dr Who he said he was a Time Agent turned freelance and he could only jump back and forth because of that ship he was in I think. And the technology doesn't exist anymore to make more tardis'. I vaguely remember the Dr explaining something to Rose about the stealth technology getting stuck on the Police box and he couldn't fix it because the Tardis was unique and with Galifray gone etc.

I think the Doc just came for Jack with the rift being opened and all, but its not Jack's Doctor anymore is it....its not Christpher Eccleston its David Tenant, so its not his Doc....

Oh and I had a thought about why Rhys wasn't dead in the end and also about in 1942 the man dancing with a man wouldn't have been acceptable thing and what would have happened to the real Cap Jack after Torchwood jack went back as it wasnt acceptable at all really in 1942 to be gay (not a homophobic comment, a fact back then).....

Well, when Bilis sucked Jack and Tosh into 1942 he pulled them out of their own timeline and into a "wrong" one, he did the same with Rhys, he altered the timeline to get him to Torchwood. Well, when Abadon appeared he said "My work here is done" and disappeared.....well if when abadon was killed all the timelines corrected themselves, then rhys would have never been at torchwood for him to kill and 1942 timeline would have been restored to its original so no jack and Tosh......thats just my thinking anyway.

I also remember hearing that Russell Davis was keen to keep the Dr & Torchwood separate so whilst Jack may appear in Dr Who, the Dr wont be in Torchwood.

Posted by Bev at January 5, 2007 3:50 PM

what would have happened after real Cap Jack after Torchwood jack went back as it wasn't acceptable
-x-
i thought maybe he was killed deliberately for shaming the regiment or something because it was only a training mission, wasn't it? not exactly very dangerous compared to what he got his men through without losing a single one (apparently).

i loved every episode of torchwood just like doctor who and i think the doc should make an appearance in torchwood or maybe jack could meet up with rose that would be cool.

Posted by aaron at January 6, 2007 2:05 AM

The TARDIS is not unique, there were many of them, if you look back through the last 40 odd years you find many references to them.

The Doctor said to Rose TARDIS's are grown, but thats a whole other debabate.

Torch wood is fantastic great show, and I think it is refrshing to see a bisexual person openly expressing there feelings ext on the show. Lets not forget its after the watershed people!

There is a rumour going round btw that Dr Who could be more time slot and getting darker, a lot darker. Hense the reason why the sarah Jane mystrous ave arrived upon the screen. And I for one would like to see a darker Dr who, maybe even see a thre dr's/ torchwood crossover. Concerning the great last time war

All the best

Anyone else think that the hand we see in Torchwood is the Doctor's hand from the 05 christmas special ? I think that the series should be toned down especially on the homosexual side of things as this turns many viewers off.Apart from this , Torchwood is brilliant!! Bring on series two.Russel T Davies is being clever though linking the two series as we all know Jack returns to dr who in series three.

Posted by Rob at January 6, 2007 9:34 PM

Stunning finale. Am really looking forward to the next series!

Just one thought....when Jack kissed the original Jack Harkness at the dance and then returned to the present, surely the original Jack's life would have been made hell by his officers who saw it (being over 60 years ago with a totally different attitude to sexuality. Or maybe Jack was trying to save him by having him kicked out of the army the day before he was due to be killed....So in fact, the Original Captain Jack Harkness was court marshalled, kicked out of the army and may still be alive in the present....mmmmm interesting!!

Posted by George at January 7, 2007 12:46 AM

I thought that Capt. Jack (the real one) could have been killed by his men because they would not have accepted him dancing AND kissing another man.

I ant Owen to be nice again :-( and get back with Gwen! hehe its sad, but silly little relationships like that, even if they aren't real give me comfort and i loved watching it unfold...oh well theres hope for the new series.

And did people really think that Jack would be gone for good-hes the all knowledgable one! They can't take him away, otherwise Torchwood would know nothing about the Alien technology!!

Oh well...i am counting till the next series! My sunday nights are empty i don't know what to do with myself!

3 Cheers for Torchwood, Bee!

Doesn't The Master have a Tardis? We've heard hide nor hair of him in 10 years and with everybody convinced that The Doctor took Captain Jack it would be an interesting twist if the real abductor was The Master.

Posted by Jamie at January 8, 2007 5:19 PM

I love Dr Who but it is aimed at kids, I really love Torchwood becauese its aimed at adults espesially those who grew up with dr who and love si fi. This show is just as good as anything the americans can come up with and long may it continue, regards lloyd

ps forgive the spelling I am a bit drunk right now.

Posted by lloyd at January 8, 2007 11:32 PM

Torchwood is brilliant - wasn't it about time that the BBC gave us a character who just happens to be Bi/gay, a positive figure, who is not at odds with his sexuality, and to my memory the only one who isn't a screaming queen! - thank-you BBC - Jack is a real hero, and his sexuality is just part of who he is. I loved the episode on Dr Who, when he kissed Rose, then went on and kissed the Doctor as well! Great Stuff - Keep it up Beeb. I was just a little sad that Jack could not stay faithful to Ianto, but perhaps it was payback for keeping him keeping his cyber-chick in the basement!

Not sure about Abadon, it reminded me of Kitten Kong from the Goodies (sorry most of you will be too young to remember that one). The whole scene may have worked better, if people simply dropped to the floor dead, rather than "seeing" a terrible over grown horned creature which is cross between the book of Revelation and hammer house of horror! I didn't think it was very realistic either in torchwood or in Doctor Who.

I can't wait for the second series, and do tend to sulk when I have to wait a whole week for the next episode, I am going to be very difficult to live with for however long it takes to get the next series. Also bring on the Doctor, even if just a small part for one episode - it would be so cool.

Albie

Posted by Albie at January 9, 2007 9:55 AM

Yes it was the Doctor's hand in the glass jar, yes it was the doctor who picked Jack up at the end. And Jack will be in episodes 11, 12 and 13 of Doctor Who. I'm guessing that after those 3 Jack will return to his teammates in Torchwood

Posted by Alex Scriven at January 10, 2007 5:23 PM

I cant wait to see where the Doctor took Jack...

Posted by The Doctor at January 10, 2007 7:23 PM

End of days was cool but that thing with jack and ianto was sick. if the writers make them have a relationship they should keep it to subtle onscreen references and not showing them snogging. Also they should have shown the TARDIS arrive. Can't wait til series 2.
p.s. the hand belonged to the doctor but how jack got it is still a mystery.
p.p.s. I think they should start putting in bad wolf references on torchwood like the did on dr who series 1

Posted by BadWolf at January 12, 2007 1:55 PM

I want to taste eve Myles, inside and out, then cook her, and repeat.

Posted by Scat at January 13, 2007 1:27 PM

I assume you all recognize Abadon from the creature in the pit the Doctor and Rose found from last season. It was the Devil! And TARDISes are grown but they can't be activated unless they imprint on a real Timelord...I agree though, I think it may have been The Master. I can't believe Capt Jack could be a Galifrean--did anyone check if he has two hearts? Maybe he has amnesia or the Timelords wiped his memory...hmmm. Can't wait to see next season!

Posted by DaveNYC at January 14, 2007 10:58 AM

Badwolf - I agree they should have kept the relationship more subtle, but i cannot agree that it was "sick". Do we not live in a free country? I have to say it was refreshing to see an openly bisexual (or pansexual) main character.
Also, not showing the tardis keeps us guessiong - although I think most on this thread agree that it was the doctor, we cannot be sure until the next series begins. Bring in the tardis and its pretty much obvious.
Thirdly, the badwolf references in Dr Who series 1 were for Rose, messages she left for herself. As she's now in a parallel universe...

Oh my god!
#
Now how good looking is jack harkness! Wow you couldnt find a more suited guy to do the role. I wish it will come out as soon as its the first time ive liked something like this

TORCHWOOD COME BACK SOON!!!!1

Posted by Melissa at January 16, 2007 10:34 PM

IF the hand in the jar, IS the doctors, and I think it very well could be, then it stands to reason that Jack got it when TORCHWOOD shoots down the spaceship, in the xmas special, where The Doc loose the hand. It would make sense that Jack was at Torchwood at that time, since the xmas special takes place in present day, and if Torchwood shoots down a spaceship, dont you think they would go investigate the crashsite to scavenge, as they always do? And whoops, theres a hand, wonder who finds it? :)

What bugs me, is how the huge torchwood facility with lots and lots of storage and members, we see in Dr Who, goes to be a 5 staff "secret" organisation (that everyone knows anyway) with members who screw up as much as the fix. Mind i love the series, but its got some pretty big holes to cover, if you ask me...

Does anyone know when the next season of Doctor who, launches?

Posted by Anders at January 17, 2007 4:08 AM

actually the abadon is the son of the devil states bilis manger, it's not the master!.

it is the doctor and his tardis, torchwood is ahead of doctor who in time, when jack disappears he then reappears in doctor who's series 3 episode 11, this is where in the doctor who series timeline torchwood has just ended

can you understand what i mean?

"alex" is also correct he does return to his squad
after episode 13 (doctor who series 3) the doctor wouldn't want to stop jack doing good in the world...would he...?

andanother thing why are so many people gayiest if thats a word, gays i consider to be interseting people who have abit of sense, oh by the way i'm gay any of you if you are please.x put a message like this "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" so i'll notice it

Posted by inside info at January 17, 2007 6:55 PM

I've got a few Questions for those of you who are knowledgable:

-Does anyone know where Jack got the Doctor's hand from?

- Does anyone know if there is any mention of The Master? If he's alive, I cant see him helping the Time Lords against the Daleks. So that would make him the 2nd Time Lord still alive.

- Are the Daleks really gone? For a race supposedly exterminated (pun intended), they sure are showing up a lot.

Posted by Adrian at January 18, 2007 7:17 AM

Hi there,

i have had a couple of ideas on jack leaving and the deal with the hand fissing and glowing. And this is them.

Firstly Jack leaving - it may not have any effect on torch wood season 2. Think about it the way it is written means that it could cross the doctor who time line at any point. they could end episode 10 in doctor who with the doctor going to pick up jack. and drop him back a little later, just in time for the first episode of torchwood season 2... with him only missing a week (even though hes away for 3 doctor who episodes, the doctor has a time machine after all)

MY HAND THEORY

In the doctor who x-mas special "the christmas bride" catherine tate drank a fluid which transported her to the tardis. What if Capt. Jack got his hands on some of this fluid and submersed the hand in fluid in a chamber which keeps it in jacks time line (it would explain why he is so protective over it breaking. the hand could jump to the doctor with out him)By submersing it in the fluid it soaks up the fluid thus making it suseptable to time transport. Now because it is in the chamber that keeps it with jack it must result in the tardis coming to him. (as a foot note why would the doctor come looking for jack HE THINKS HES DEAD!!!) So the only way the tardis would come to torchwood is if Jack made it come to him.

so there you go that is my theory i dont proclaim to be an expert so i would like some feed back from you guys e-mail me your ideas on stjohnmoore123@hotmail.co.uk

Posted by daniel st john moore at January 18, 2007 9:32 PM

Hi, urm who is the master that everyone keeps talking about? I remeber watching the episodes in Doctor who with 'bad wolf' what was that about?

I read somewhere that in an interview, Jack does go back to Torchwood and him and Ianto have a proper relationship and apparently you see Jack's butt in one episode! Does anyone know if this is actually true? Not seeing his butt the whole him going back to Torchwood and their relationship. And also I read in the same place that the reason the Doctor went to torchwood and took Jack was because he saw something to do with the rift and people seeing their loved ones and went to investigate.

And I was just wondering:
Is the pen thing that Jack has the same as the one that the doctor was allways carrying?

Howcome Gwen kissing Jack brings him back to life?

And howcome in the first episode when Susie shot him, he healed quite quickly, but when Owen shot him he took ages? Does anyone know the answer to these?

I'd also like to note that Torchwood approach to being gay/bisexual makes a refreshing change.

Torchwood is awesome, infact other than Doctor who, it is the best show (that includes Canadian t.v. shows and the crap Americans show) ever!Jack is totally a hottie.
Finally Jack gets his "right kind of doctor"
TORCHWOOD ROCKS!!! YAY

Posted by canadian_chick at February 8, 2007 4:43 AM

Ok Guys...to answer a few questions:

The Master was a rogue Time Lord. Was at the Gallefreyan Acadamy with the Doctor - only got a Masters, not a Doctorate. Used to be a close friend of the Doctor, before turning to evil and the pursuit of power.

I hate to break it to you guys, but Torchwood existed before Jack Harkness. Queen Victoria set up the Torchwood Institute (London Torchwood is Torchwood 1, Cardiff is Torchwood 2, and an office up in Scotland is Torchwood 3). With Jack gone, Torchwood still has the ability to carry on...but some of the characters in the staff there need to grow up a little and become more ruthless and self-disciplined (what Jack brings to the Team, as well as his knowledge).

Jack got the Doctor's hand after it was severed by the Sycorax (first Christmas special)...the Doctor was still regenerating, so it (presumably) has some sort of excess life in it...Jack doesn't understand what happened to him, remember?

The Doctor doesn't know Jack is alive remember, and I suspect that Jack's device (inc hand) acts as a "bait" or trigger to draw the Doctor in. Maybe it's just an "alarm" to tell Jack when the Doctor is back to "refuel" the TARDIS at the rift again. Either that, or the Doctor has learned that Jack is alive and gone to rescue/recruit him.

The question is, now that the Doctor has seen Jack, can he help him with his problem of over-abundent life? Does he? Does Jack want him to?

BTW one of my work friends was _really_ disappointed when she found out that Barrowman is gay in real life..."what a waste!" she said!

Also, in my opinion, I understand that some people are gay etc, but the impression I get from various friends is that the over-emphasis of "gayness" puts them off the show. Torchwood is a fantastic show, dealing with ordinary (albeit gifted) people dealing with the most extra-ordinary situations, and explores some of the emotional depths around this (isolation etc), but the initial aim of the show needs to be remembered.

PS Maybe Abaddon was the cousin of the creature from "The Satan Pit"?

Posted by TimeLessWatcher at February 10, 2007 1:43 AM

We know it was doctor who's tardis that landed because of the hand, Remember dr who had his hand cut off, it was his hand that reacted in the liquid just before the tardis was dematerializing and then jack disapeared.

The master was destroyed in the eye of the doctors tardis, if you seen that episode than you would have known this.
As far as another timelord still alive remember E Space and romana, she would not know about the time war, if Dr Who makes his way back to E Space I'm sure he would find here there.

the nut who rit this have you read over all the comments your just saying what everyone else has said, will people please stop talking about the master, he ain't coming or going end of.

they are actually 4 torchwoods remember although they sort of lost the 4th??

the doctor does know that jacks alive the doctor (christopher eccleston) stated in the parting of the ways jack has the whole or humanity to rebuild because rose asked shouldn't we get/wait for jack!!!!

the question really is who really is jack he's been in so many time zones like the doctor you would say but jack had a life their (world war 2, he was their right in the middle of the war not just in the empty child but also in torchwood's small worlds, so this raises the question is jack to doctor son, come on makes alota sense.

To all those that think the same sex interactions are "sick" or the "gayness" is turning people away from watching, it's time to realize that this is the way the world is and there's nothing wrong with it. Don't forget gay people are constantly bombarded by "heteroness" in almost every program made. (How come you morality cops haven't commented on Gwen the two timing tart?) I've waited all my life to see a character like Jack come to TV. Here's a great big "Thank you!" to the creators of Torchwood for that.

I just finished watching Season one, and I'm very pleased. Some rough edges, but it's all looking god and promising!
I hope it gets brought over to the US too, since many US fans have downloaded the episodes and are spreading the word about it.
I was thrilled as hell when I heard the TARDIS at the end of the last episode.
So far my favorite character is Owen; I want to know what kind of past he has to have acquired the skills of doctoring, beating-the-hell-out-of-people-ing, and breaking and entering. No the nicest char in the series, but the most interesting.
I'm ready for Season 2!

Hello people! Russell T Davies is gay what is it with you homophobes! If it wasn't for him then all this wouldn't exist! And I love the whole Jack/Ianto-ness!

Hey everyone Torchwood is great. After the Tardis noise at the end of season one and Jack's disapearence it really got me thinking. Now that the temporal rift is expanding and growing in activity could there be another time lord flying through the rift in search of more of his kind a.k.a. the Doctor. That hand glowing definately tells us that there is a Tardis coming because in a previous episode of Doctor Who the Tardis key glew in the same way signaling that a Tardis was coming. Or as Jack wasnt tempted by anything in the last two episodes sticking to his guns, maybe this is an attempt to temt Jack into doing what all the other members of Torchwood did as they all had there own personal reasons for opening the rift, Jack has wanted to find the right doctor for a long time. One more thing, as the temporal rifts increasing in activity Jacks ship could always come back. Crossover episodes will work great, and theres no need to worry about what kids might do if they see the Doctor in Torchwood as they shouldnt be watching it really. plus david tennant has been seen in various other programs that kids might of got confussed about. Doctor Who and Torchwood are both great. Role on the new seasons. Thanks for some great british tele.

Posted by James at March 10, 2007 11:32 AM

Does Jack want to die??.. I mean he cant actually die so is that why he wants to find the Doctor, the right doctor. Will he want what ever was done to him reversed by the Doctor??.. Maybe the Doctor will just try to explain what happened to him. If the Doctor reversed what ever happened to Jack then he can still be with Torchwood, but he would just have to be as careful as the rest of us. Does he want to die??.. Would you want to die if you have lived for as long as him and seen all what he has seen??.. Or is Jack already dead??.. So much speculation and mystery, thats what we all love about Torchwood, your always on the edge of your seat. Torchwood for me is one of the best pieces of television to come out of England in a long time. Thanks.

Did anyone else notice the words BAD WOLF graffitied on the wall in the episode, "Out of Time"? You see it right before Jack and Tash walk back up the stairs and are transported back to 1941.

I wonder how much they will will play with Bad Wolf in the series since it was somewhat left as a mystery in the Dr Who series.

Posted by Jimbo at March 13, 2007 12:21 AM

I'm so delighted that torchwood is returning for a second series. The first one was so enjoyable and fantastic to watch. My favourite characters are Captain Jack, Owen and Gwen I least like Ianto and Tosh. John Barrowman as Captain Jack has got to be great as he acted out those last scenes in "End of days" tremendously well. I have been out and bought the DVD's that have been released so far and all i can say is that I don't get sick of watching the episodes. I don't understand why alot of people are saying they don't like the character Owen I think Owen is a great character with so much charm and I hope that him and Gwen get together again in series 2 and Burn Gorman plays Owen brilliantly. Looking forward to a new series. Can't Wait!!!!!!!!

Posted by at March 22, 2007 7:51 PM

I gotta say, I dig the whole Ianto/Jack tension too. Frankly, I wouldn't dig Jack if he was just a strong jawed pistol-wielding front man. Pfff-booooring.

And Owen is an unmitigated selfish bastard; but Gorman plays him perfectly, and that's the character he's *supposed* to be.

Posted by Ben at March 29, 2007 7:15 PM

well done jimbo i thought i was the only one who noticed! the words BAD WOLF are indeed written on the wall behind Jack and Tosh in "Captain Jack Harkness." These words are always to do with Rose, and it makes sense as Jack and Tosh are at the time about to be transported to a place where we all know she visited with the doctor. Thing is, isn't the whole BAD WOLF thing sorted by now. Why have the writers included it in this episode of Torchwood, when it was originally the main part of the 2005 series of Doctor Who. Is there something else yet to happen with these words on Torchwood now...

Posted by the face of boe at April 7, 2007 8:57 PM

were did jack go man n owen love u XXXX

Posted by at April 14, 2007 4:03 PM

Regards to seeing Badwolf on the wall in Torchwood.Yes we do know that rose left messages to remind her but could it be a message she has left for actually torchwood to find.Torchwood 4 is missing i think torchwood 4 is the pararell universe torchwood inwhich rose did say she was going to work at cos she knows about aliens now.Jake and mickey did take over that torchwood

OMG could rose be in torchwood cardiff that would be ace.

then again it could just be written there from 1940s empty child episode and stayed there as time moved on....Who knows

Posted by at April 21, 2007 10:42 AM

Captain Jack is a Timelord

Posted by dave at April 24, 2007 6:18 PM

quick note. the bad wolf is not Rose, it is the tardis or more precisely the time votex or the soul of the tardis. It left all the messages to remind itself and save the doctor when it was needed. as for the words on the wall... usually writers and directors like to leave clues for people to find to whats going to happen. Hence bad wolf on the wall tardis sound at the end.
Btw the show is amazing and the ideas are great. Keep it coming.

Posted by mrdurandt at May 3, 2007 6:03 AM

so yeh just thought you would like 2 know

Posted by rosie at May 14, 2007 10:34 PM

TorchWood.. Good
From an american POV.. great show.. grittier and less censored then some of the stuff we produce.. and I doubt some of the show will survive the censors when it gets brought to the states.

Doctor Who... Good
Torchwood/Doctor Who crossovers... Excellent

The hand.. its the Doctors from the xmas invasion.. pretty easy to guess. Proven when it begins to act up in series end just as we hear a Tardis.

Gwen/Eve.. good actress.. took me a bit to recognize her from the early ep of Doctor Who.. then I remembered that damn big gap in her teeth.

Cyberwoman.. Ianto said she got taken down at canary warf... same place Martha Jones said her friend up and went missing.. Hmmmmmmm I wonder...

The Doctor definatly knew Jack was still alive just after his transformation.

Jack as a time lord or the son of the Doctor.. I doubt it.. Doctro Who would have known if he was a time lord, could probably sense another Time Lord if they are alive and active...
Which brings up the Face of Boe in the ep Gridlock stating that the doctor wasn't alone.. methinks second time lord is in stasis or suspended animation somewhere which prevents the Doctor from sensing them and hence believes he is alone (but the face of boe knows better). Jack as a time lord.. No.. the Doctor would have noticed and he sure as hell would have noticed if Jack was his son.

Posted by Hated Americans at May 22, 2007 12:20 PM

the other time lord the face of boe mentions is the master 'spirit' inside the future masters body, that is played by john simm soon to be doctor who 11th,

heres the plot for the rest of doctor who series three.....

Mr Saxon IS the Master, but not as straightforward as you might think. Here are the key plot components I was told from forthcoming episodes:

1) In a brief but touching scene before the climactic episodes of the season, Martha wanders the Tardis (first proper inside-the-Tardis scene apparently) and spots a snapshot of the Ecclestone Doctor and Rose among other shots of the past Doctors earthbound companions in the Doctors "quarters" (brief glimpses of photo's of the Brig, Unit, Sarah Jane, Jo, Harry, etc). She asks the Doctor who the couple are. The Doc says its him and Rose. Martha can't understand how as he looks like someone else. This prompts a potted explanation of regeneration by the Doc - importantly revealing that he has 12 regenerations therefore 13 lives, as do all Time Lords (nice bit of continuity)...

2) Some time after this (not the same episode) near the climax of the series the Doctor identifies Saxon as a Time Lord - the sonic screwdriver scans his 2 hearts and other proof of Time Lord physiology. BUT, Saxon announces he is the Master and the Doctor exclaims it cannot be as he has already used his 13 lives and has survived by stealing the bodies of humans and therefore can no longer be a proper Time Lord (hence the point of the earlier scene described above helping explain this for the new younger audience).

3) Near the end of the final episode it emerges that the reason the Master/Saxon is a Time Lord after all is that in the future he has stolen the body of the Doctor's next incarnation and returned to set a trap and destroy him once and for all, changing the course of time and continue as a time Lord in the Doctors rightful body.

4) The Doctor ends up defeating the Master by outwitting him using the Tardis (not quite sure how) and changing the timeline such that the Master is defeated. But the Doctor is seriously injured in the process (climactic battle on a hilltop??) and regenerates into - guess who - John Simm!!

5) The new Doctor and Martha's first task in a brief couple of scenes after the climactic events, is to travel back in the Tardis to the point before Simms Master previously started infiltrating the Politics of Britain to eventually become PM, but doing something that stops this from happening, and so all peoples knowledge of Mr Saxon is prevented from happening, and the Doctor and Martha can travel the Universe as if nothing happened.

6) However, the audience is left with a teaser that Simms Master / Alternative Doctor may have esacaped destruction, setting up another dramatic twist that in series 4 the Master will return as the Doctors doppleganger. But not only that - as has already been speculated - the Master is indeed the Doctors brother, so he is set up in series 4 to be, by a temporal anomaly, the doctors twin brother!! Roll on!

i am pretty sure the tardis was imn cardiff to refuel as it was in boom town from series 1 of dr who but yeah torchwood 2 bring it on i think they should cast chris eccleston and david tennent in either seris 2 or 3 for a kind of 2 doctors episode

Posted by ste at June 5, 2007 8:19 PM

john simm is not the master, he is the valeyard- in the classic series the story trial of a timelord it is revealed that the valeyard is the doctor somewhere between his 12th and final life.

this is why the doctor is so dead against killing he is trying to avoid becoming this evil version of himself.

Posted by dave jones at June 11, 2007 6:56 PM

dear torchwood fans I have been discussing doctor who on this website and now torchwood. the cardiff rift was active...the doctor came to refual from it and captain jack heard it, held onto it and it was so active that it refualled the tardis in 20 seconds and it crashed on the planet malcairrisio in the year 100 trillion and while a savage tribe is in he wilderness they meet a lonely pofesser who is trying to save the last of the humans scattered across he night End od days in torchwood, utopia in doctor who etcetera, etcetera.

I am a really big fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood... They are without a dought great british tv... As I watched Captain Jack return to doctor who this week... I saw that he had with him... the Doctors hand that he lost in the first Christmas episode... I decided to begin watching the first series off torchwood again but as I watched the series finale... I saw that after Jack dissappears and gwen says " Somethings taken him, Jacks gone". As the camera zooms away.. on the left of her is the doctors hand in the jar... This means Jack must have been back before jumpping onto the tardis... *thinks*

Greetings all, Just wanted to pop in and say a few things. I have ben a fan of Dr Who for years and now Torchwood. I have to say that I am disappointed with many of the postings I have read on this forum. It would appear that most of you watch the shows but do not pay attention.
While it is possible (as all things are in the Dr Who universe) it is very unlikely that Jake is even related to the Doctor much less his son. Todate we have only met one family member and that was his Granddaughter Susan. Susan was human and not a Timelord. She traveled with him when he was played by William Hartnel. During that time it was even brought out that the Dr was not even sure of the relationship as he was already 900 years old and was still on his first life. He mentioned several times that he could not remember his actual name. After his first regeneration there was no more mention of Susan until the 20th aniversary special (The Five Doctors).
The Face of Bo is not a Timelord either. Cassandra (the last Human) makes reference to the great Bo race in the episode New Earth.
The Master was not distroyed by the Time Vortex in the TARDIS. He was absorbed/trapped. The Timelords released him and gave him a new body from the matrix so he could help fight in the TimeWar.
Hope this helps.

Hello again. Just some interesting things that I noticed on the shows that I did not see posted here.

As far as I can tell, Owen is the only member of Torchwood that does not have a direct tie to The Dr.
Capt. Jack - First seen on Dr Who Empty Child episode.

Gwen - posible ancesstor of Gwenyth in Dr Who episode The unquiet dead (both charaters played by same actress.

Tosh - First seen in Dr Who episode Aliens of London investigating the fake Pig alien.

Ianto - First seen in Dr Who episode Army of Ghosts working for Torchwood 1 in London along with Lisa (Cyber Woman)

so I am still waiting to find out what Owen's connection is. Anyone know?

I'm so happy a TV series like this is finally on tv.
To all those people who think the bisexuality is "sick" or forced upon the viewers really need to open up their minds and realise that all kinds of sexuality exist in the world.

The bisexual themes in Torchwood are never forced upon anyone. It's not like they're shouting at you and demanding acceptance, simply putting forward a part of life which has deserved acceptance since the beginning of time.
I'm so happy that this has been displayed in a popular tv series and hope this really is the century where everything changes.

Does anyone know when Torchwood season 2 is out? I can't wait to see it!

Posted by Jay at July 16, 2007 3:23 AM

Spike from Buffy the Vampire slayer is joining the torchwood team which will be shown around November apparently. As for Barrowman/Jacks sexuality. Its neither here nor there but regarding the Capt Jack character, his sexuality isnt confined merely to the confines of Planet Earth. Dont know what you'd call those kind of phobes. :)

Posted by Jim at July 25, 2007 12:28 AM

I know a bit from torchwood season 2. Like a comment has already said James marster from buffy the vampire slayer [[spike]] will be in torchwood. And Capt. Jack has flashbacks on his childhood back to when his dad died.

And im not certain, but i think gwen and jack might be gettin it on in torchwood as i saw pictures of them kissing, whilst filming torchwood.

And Martha Jones comes in torchwood episode 6. I Did come across the names of the new episodes of torchwood but i forgot lol. I Think one of them was called Another Day At Work..or something like that. I Have bad memory lol sorry.

martha jones is in it for 5 episodes

Ok people. Can we finally get to grips that Jack like boys aswell as girls? He is from the future, he has been all over the galaxy, all over time. That is why his character is not confined to closed minded ideals that still exist in society today. Jesus!!! Have you even been watching????

PS. I think they messed up a bit on continuity. The finale showed that the tardis came into torchwood. Hence all the papers being all over the floor and the place being in a mess. But in DW he is seen running across the square then jumping on the tardis. But for a show to only get one little thing wrong is a rarety. Roll on season 2!!!!!

Hi! I've got this link here:
http://www.tv-links.co.uk/listings/1/110

and its got a list of videos for season 1 of Torchwood and another list that's titled "Declassified"! I have no idea whats that, could it be season 2? It begins with an episode called "Jack's Back". Or are they just episodes that weren't chosen to be in season 1?

Posted by Charlotte at August 9, 2007 11:31 PM

I'm sorry that I do not see why should there be emphasis on the homosexuality or bi-sexuality of the hero. Torchwood is great as a series, but the gay scenes are a put off to the vast majority of the viewers no matter where they live and what century we have. I don't care if we live in the 21st or the 51st century. I am not homophobic, a couple of my friends are gays and by the way they agree with me. This is Torchwood, a sci-fi drama spin off from Dr Who, it is not Angels in America, which was great by the way. I respect homosexuals and their right to their privacy and to their life, but I do not like to see homosexuality as a propaganda in a sci-fi series. Yes all of you gays, wake up, you can do whatever you like, but do not try to convince us that homosexuality is natural. We are, most of us educated enough, and we've watched all these great documentaries, about how you can find homosexuality in wild life etc. But this is the minority, and it is not nature's way. So for f*ks sake please, stop having a chip on your shoulder and grow up. Most of us accept you as you are and we do not descriminate, not anymore. Torchwood should cut homosexual scenes because it's sci-fi and not the gay's cronicle.

Jack you are such a hypocrite, and such a prude, come on man, you don't mind homosexuality, part of real life you say, but you are bothered by the swearing on the telly? LOL Hypocrisism in all its glory. Grow up man, get out and about, watch the rest of Europe, Britain is part of Europe you know, swearing is as common as muck in real life. Have a look at some statistics, take some yourself, it will do you some good, they are eye openers.

Charlotte - that looks like an alternate listing of the Series 1 episodes. If you look closely, they describe each of the episodes fairly well.

THE HAND BELONGS TO THE DOCTOR,

JACK FOUND THE IT, AND KEPT IT,

HE WANTED TO REUINITE WITH THE DOCTOR BECAUSE HE USED TO BE THE DOCTORS COMPANION BEFORE UNTILL HE BECAME IMORTAL.

HE WANTED TO KNOW WITHER HE COULD EVER DIE, AND WE FIND OUT THAT HE DOES INDEED DIE, IN THE EPISODE GRIDLOCK, IN THE FUTURE HE IS KNOWN AS THE FACE OF BOW.

i think gwen and jack should go out with each other and gwen should turn bad or an alien gets into her body and sends her mad or gwen gets an headache and has some pills and gets hungery again and nearly eats her boyfriend and the the team finds out.

I know its sad I know this...but i just watched the episode of Dr Who with the satan pit and the Ood refer to the big satan thing as Abadon...Hmm. Recognise it? I know it cos I had to watch it on subtitles cos i could barely hear it cos no one in my house would shut up lol.

I love Torchwood better than Doctor Who.
Captain Jack is great character, John Barrowman is the best actor by far, can not wait for the second series.

I would like to find out what date Torchwood 2 is coming on because I am a very big fan. I would also like to say that John Barrowman has done a fantastic job.I loved the last season and don't want anyone to leave and it seems that Captin Jack Harkness has learnt well from The Doctor. I love the fact that he can't die but I honestly thought he was dead!!! Gwen was fantastic not giving up lookin after Jack! As many other people have mentioned it was "brill" and the next one and other future seasons will be just as fantastic.

Best of luck,
Dorothy

Ok i love dr. who but torchwood was CRAP!! it had the worst plots. Weak actors and everyone was screwing everyone, OR WANTED TO. Get real. The show should be canned.. K9 series is a better idea!!

GO EVE MYLES AND JOHN BARROWMAN!!!!
Luv readin da comments LOL
OMG OMG can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case you are wondering about Torchwood in the US, it is playing on BBC America on saturday nights. First episode was last sunday (9/8). If you can't wait, or don't get BBC America, they are all up on YouTube right now, you just have to search for them by episode name (go to the BBC torchwood site to get the names of the episodes.)

As for the rest of the comments on this site, I have to say, have any of you actually watched the episodes? Some of the comments made are the stupidest things I have ever read. Not all of course, and thanks to the ones that actually seem to have a brain. The rest of you (and you know who you are) get a life.

One last comment. Capt. Jack is not gay. He is Pansexual. He will screw anything he fancies, because he comes from a time where no one cares. So, in answer to the previous post, yes, he does have to snog everything he fancies, because he was written that way all the way back in the first season of the new Doctor Who. To change that is to change a fundamental aspect of the character. Man, woman, bug eyed monster, he just doesn't care.

Okay, I tried to read the past posts, but I had to stop because of the spoilers. You guys should consider putting a warning sign up so people who don't want to know won't be... well, spoiled. The surprises are the best part of Dr. Who and I want to save them.

Anyway a couple of things -

It was great to see Barrowman listed in the Dr.Who opening credits, just like a real companion, if only for a short time. It's about time.

In the opening episode Jack says that Torchwood 2 is some odd guy in Glasgow - does that have some meaining? isn't there a show about some paranormal investigator that he could be referring to? I'm a Yank, so I don't get all the pop references sometimes.

I saw reference to Torchwood being an anagram of Doctor Who. I remember hearing that when Who restarted they were so scared of pirates that they would mark the film cans "Torchwood" for security reasons. Then they figured it was too good a name to throw away.

On the gay - I don't really care. But it does seem a little overboard when almost everyone is at least bi. Owen picks up a guy & girl in episode one, Tosh picks up a female alien in number two, Jack & Ianto. NEWS FLASH - not everyone is bisexual! Too much pansex is just as bad as pretending it doesn't exist.

Couple things: The name "TORCHWOOD" is an anagram of the name "DOCTOR WHO", so yes the two series are VERY interconnected.

The hand WAS the Doctors. Jack used it as a Doctor Detector to let him know when the Doctor returned to Cardiff. He was waiting for him for decades and Cardiff was the one place on Earth he KNEW he would find him (because the Dr refuels the TARDIS on the rift).

Kack does not and will not have a TARDIS. Tardis' were grown and bred only by the Time Lords, and even Who has said he does not know how it was done. This is the last and only TARDIS, saved by the Doctor from the Time Wars.
Jack does, however, own a time shift bracelet that allows transport through time (harshly). This is how Jack and the Doctor got back to the present form the end of time in the finale of last season (when the Master had stolen the TARDIS). However, at the very end of the season teh Doctor disabled the bracelet on him saying "We really can't have you bouncing about the universe." so Jack is (currently) bound in normal time.

I am such a geek..

Posted by William Hopper at September 29, 2007 9:11 PM

I can explain the situation with the Doctor's hand and Jack: When the hand was cut off during the X-mas Invasion, it landed on some sort of stall that Jack was near. He realized what it was, and took it back to Torchwood. He put the hand in a container of sorts that he rigged so that when the Doctor or the TARDIS was nearby, it would go off. This happens because for some weird reason the hand picks up traces of the Doctor's DNA or Time Lord technology (the TARDIS).
Another thing: the "bracelet" that Jack wears is called a "vortex manipulator". It allows him to travel through the time vortex without killing himself.

Posted by Captain Jay at October 3, 2007 4:08 PM

I just have a minor nitpick to William Hopper. The Doctor's name is not "WHO", that is a question referring to the enigmatic name The Doctor has. His real name is "The Doctor". The name of the series, "Doctor Who" is literally a question that more than once I've heard characters ask when they hear his name for the first time.

Doctor who is better...but torchwood still goood

Posted by jesus at October 13, 2007 5:10 AM

I would just like to say the the show is great. As for most of the people who have posted on this site I think you all need to rewatch all three seasons of Doctor who and season 1 of torchwood. not to hurt anyone's feelings but for people who clame to love this show so much you sure know very little about it. As for the people who have pointed these flaws out, I agree with everything you said. For the Canadians reading this torchwood started on CBC, I know it is a little behind but I auppose it is better late then never.

wen duz series 2 start, coz sja iznt all dat, nd i cant wait 4 dr who series 4 ???anwa plz!!
:D

Posted by captainjackizmyfuckbuddy at October 25, 2007 10:27 PM

I have a question. At the end of Series 1 of Torchwood, Jack hears a rumbling, there is a sudden gust of wind in the Torchwood building, the Doctor's hand starts to bubble in the water and Jack smiles and disappers. At the beginning of Episode 10 of Series 3 of Doctor Who, Jack is running towards the Tardis which is OUTSIDE the water tower which is situated on top of the Torchwood building. If the Tardis landing OUTSIDE why was it windy INSIDE the Torchwood building? Also, if Jack ran out the main door to greet the Doctor, why didn't Toshiko and Owen see him ran past them when they came in carrying the coffee? He wouldn't have taken the water tower lift up either because in the Utopia episode of Doctor Who, Jack is seen running TOWARDS the water tower from the Torchwood entrance.

Posted by Nicola at October 31, 2007 10:45 AM

'cause they don't like to do direct cross-overs. It would be too weird actually, if they did have Jack running out of the Hub in Torchwood and have him running at the TARDIS in Doctor Who, then the two series would be a tad too connected, a bunch of fans would ask "Why the heck didn't the Doctor show up when Abaddon appeared".

Posted by Alex at November 9, 2007 1:44 AM

ie Jack, Toshiko and now Martha. Although the BBC have said the current Doctor will never be in Torchwood, they haven't ruled out previous Doctor's turning up
